WARNING: THIS SECTION CONTAINS SERIOUS SPOILERS!
At the beginning of the game, Johnny Rock's fiancee, Red, asks you to avenge Johnny Rock's death. After that you will get the lucky number from Johnny Rock's hand and you must remember it for the duration of the game. You must shoot armed hoodlums but not innocent by-standers.
You begin the game with a bank account that will help you pay for your medical expenses. Every time you are shot, a surgeon will extract the bullets from you and help you recover, but if you run out of money, you are done for since the surgeon won't work for free. The money you have is also useful for buying more ammunition for your gun from the ammunition store. Your cash also helps pay for the funeral expenses of the innocent by-standers you've killed. The game is over when you run out of money, but continuous play is available.
After the game begins and you've shot a few criminals, you must go to four different places in the city to find clues that will help you find out if Johnny Rock's murderer is Measles, Mumps, Smallpox or Lockjaw Lil. One of those suspects is the murderer and each of them operates in one of four respective places: the chemical factory, the pool hall, the garage and the casino. To choose the place you want to go to, you must shoot it (including the ammunition store, if you need more bullets for your gun). Between sequences, you must shoot armed criminals that attack you.
When you go to each place, you must shoot only those persons who are armed. Each time you confront the suspect, you will see a piece of artwork (The Mona Lisa, the portrait of George Washington, etc.) that will be a clue to a number combination that you will have to remember. After you have been all four places and gotten all four clues, you must go to Johnny Rock's mansion while continuing to shoot your way past armed bandits. When you reach all the artworks, you must shoot the right ones in order to get each of the numbers for the safe combination. When you have made it to the safe you must remember the number combination and shoot them in order to open the safe. Once the safe has been opened, you will find an object seen at the place where the certain suspect was. With that clue, you must go back to that place, continuing to fire at armed hoods, and shoot the lucky number. You must then shoot the suspect that has turned out to be Johnny Rock's murderer. Afterwards, Red will become your friend and the game ends.
