Description

This game was commissioned by Disney as part of the Flynns Arcade attraction at San Diego Comic Con and later at the Disneys California Adventure theme park to promote the 2010 movie Tron Legacy. It is based on the fictional game of the same name from the original 1982 movie Tron by Walt Disney Studios.A central plot point of Trons The films story involves a computer programmer named Kevin Flynn Played by Jeff Bridges who creates a game called Space Paranoids and can be seen playing it in Flynns Arcade early in the film. Later, Flynn enters the computer world and is forced to fight real versions of enemies from the game. The player controls a tank with a rotating turret which can move and shoot in different directions. The base of the tank is controlled using a 4way joystick which allows for forward and backward movement and turning. The turret is controlled using a trackball and can be rotated freely in a halfsphere above the tank base. A trigger on the back of the joystick fires the canon, and the buttons on the front of the joystick reset the tank bases orientation to match the direction of the canon barrel. The tank can hold and fire up to five shots. To reload, the tank must move on top of recharge panels to slowly recover canon energy. The goal of each stage is to navigate through a threedimensional maze and destroy all of the enemies to achieve a high score. The 2008 game was written in the Unity game engine. The joystick on the cabinet is the same as that used on the game Tron. The initials FLN initially appear at all positions on the high score table, presumably referring to the character Kevin Flynn from the films.Eight functional cabinets were made for the marketing campaign. A slightly modified web version of the game was also published on the internet and can be played with the Unity Web Player browser plugin.
