This is a normal 3-D fighting game where players fight one-on-one in up to three matches and the winner moves on to the next opponent. The offensive moves have a rock/paper/scissors-type "counter a move with another move" game play. In this case, Blow exceeds Throw, Throw exceeds Hold and Hold exceeds Blow.
When playing a one-player game, two modes are available:

The original Dead Or Alive runs on System 2 hardware, which appears to be more powerful than that of Dead Or Alive++. While the backgrounds are 3-D in the original, in this game they are flat 2-D paintings, so the "++" in the title does not really seem to be justified.
All the female fighters are quite well endowed. Their cleavage is animated to the point where the operator menus contain a "breast bounce on/off" setting.
There are 15,175 members of the Video Arcade Preservation Society / Vintage Arcade Preservation Society, 9,629 whom participate in our arcade census project of games owned, wanted, or for sale. Census data currently includes 166,345 machines (6,974 unique titles).
Uncommon - There are 13 known instances of this machine owned by Dead Or Alive++ collectors who are active members. Of these, 13 of them are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.
For Sale - There is one active VAPS member with an extra Dead Or Alive++ circuit board for sale.
Wanted - No active members have added this machine to their wish list.
This game ranks a 3 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most often seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on census ownership records.
Rarity and Popularity independently are not necessarily indications of value. [More Information]
The game consists of motherboard and a daughterboard connected via a 96-pin connector. The PCB looks very much like PSX-based System 11/12 boards. The game only requires three player buttons so no extra wiring is necessary.
