Folk art and mechanical design are superbly united in this amusing and rare vender. Handcrafted and signed "Built by Otto Schmidt", the Niagara conceals a clockwork motor in its 27" oak cabinet. At the drop of a penny, the boy twice tips his hat and waves his cane as the gum is ejected from the mouth of his comical friend. The automaton's glass eyes are set in plaster, and the large head is made of iron. Produced by the Niagara Pepsin Gum Co. of Buffalo and patented August 23, 1904.
