Smashing Drive DescriptionA driving game where players assume the role of a taxi driver who picks up clients, racing them through New York City towards their destinations, while trying to avoid obstacles and traffic jams.Game IntroductionThis is a single-player driving game but two units can be linked for head-to-head competition. This driving game is based on the frenzied driving of a "super-cab" in New York City. The purpose of this game is for the player(s) who assume the role of a taxi driver to pick up clients and then then through the big city avoiding taffic jams and obstacles while discovering many surprising shortcuts and getting the extra advantages by collecting power-ups distributed at points along the course. Those power-ups can convert the cab into an even more incredible car."Bigfoot Truck" wheels can be used to power over obstacles. The cab can lose speed when it smashes against an obstacle, but "Battering Ram" power-ups can be collected and used to smash through obstacles. "Glider Wings" and "Turbo Boost" power-ups can also be used to fly over obstacles. In a two-player game, players can compete and inflict heavy damage to each other. Game PlayThe object of the game is to complete a selected circuit in the least amount of time while dodging the obstacles that cut across the path and keeping ahead of the computer-controlled cab and the other competitors. There are so many shortcuts and hidden power-ups that the game is hardly ever the same. Qualify with a high score in the round to get the extra bonus round. Qualifying twice will allow a player to drive the additional expert track.MiscellaneousLICENSED TO: NamcoVAPS Arcade CensusThere are 6,993 members of the Video Arcade Preservation Society / Vintage Arcade Preservation Society, 4,022 whom participate in our arcade census project of games owned, wanted, or for sale.
