There are 12,084 members of the Video Arcade Preservation Society / Vintage Arcade Preservation Society, 9,585 whom participate in our arcade census project of games owned, wanted, or for sale. Census data currently includes 162,631 machines (6,830 unique titles).

Scarce - There are approximately 4 known instances of this machine presumably owned by our current and past members. More are likely owned by non-members. 3 of these machines are owned by our active Sega Ninja collectors. And of these, 1 is a conversion in which game circuit boards (and possibly cabinet graphics) have been placed in (and on) another game cabinet, and 2 are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.

For Sale - There is one active VAPS member with an extra Sega Ninja circuit board for sale.

Wanted - There is one active VAPS member currently looking for Sega Ninja.

At any given time, our active members are listing on VAPS on average of 4,400 games they are looking for, and 3,600 games for sale.

This game ranks a 1 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most often seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on census ownership records.

This game ranks a 2 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most often wanted, 1=least common) in popularity based on census want list records.

Trivia

A Sega Master System version of this game was released a year after the arcade game bowed, but significant changes were made. Basic gameplay remained the same, but the stage layouts being slightly altered and the hero was changed from a female to a male. Enemy designs were also slightly altered. Oddly enough, one of the enemies looks strangely like the Ninja Princess protagonist from the arcade. The controls had to be adapted to accomodate the SMS's two button controller so invisibility was invoked by pressing both buttons simultaneously. The game, simply entitled "The Ninja" was less cartoony-looking and its story involved saving a princess from capture: "Ever since Gyokuro came into power as the ruler of the once peaceful land of Ohkami, the countryside has been in turmoil. Gyokuro has sent his Ninja out to torment the people. He's even locked the princess up in the basement of the castle. Someone has to take a stand against the wicked Gyokuro if peace is ever to be restored. Armed only with ninja darts, the brave Kazamaru accepts the challenge. But he's going to need your help."
