TechnicalSega ROM Numbers: 6546-6549, 6559, 6588-6596TriviaA Sega Master System version of this game was released a year after the arcade game bowed, but significant changes were made. Basic gameplay remained the same, but the stage layouts being slightly altered and the hero was changed from a female to a male. Enemy designs were also slightly altered. Oddly enough, one of the enemies looks strangely like the Ninja Princess protagonist from the arcade. The controls had to be adapted to accomodate the SMS's two button controller so invisibility was invoked by pressing both buttons simultaneously. The game, simply entitled "The Ninja" was less cartoony-looking and its story involved saving a princess from capture: "Ever since Gyokuro came into power as the ruler of the once peaceful land of Ohkami, the countryside has been in turmoil. Gyokuro has sent his Ninja out to torment the people. He's even locked the princess up in the basement of the castle. Someone has to take a stand against the wicked Gyokuro if peace is ever to be restored. Armed only with ninja darts, the brave Kazamaru accepts the challenge. But he's going to need your help."
