Game PlayIn this game, you select to play one of four Dino characters who each have a different name and color: Rex red, Bloop blue, Spike yellow and Gwen lavender. The game takes place in a prehistoric land called Og that has 49 different islands where your Dino character collects eggs while fending off ravenous, one-eyed cavemen called Trogs. Press the button to punch the attacking Trogs one punch will only stun a Trog but several punches will knock the enemy off the screen. There are four different Trogs who pursue you:
On each island, after you have gathered up all your eggs, you must go to the base labeled "Home" where you will move on to the next island. Between each stage there is an intermission where your Dino will dance and there will be a word or phrase above him or her that will say "Excellent!", "Congratulations!", "Nice Work!", "Good Job!" or "Dino-Mite!". On occasion, there is an intermission featuring a Trog planning another attempt to eat a Dino. While playing the game, try not to fall off the island. You must avoid or fight off any stone wheels that roll toward you and also avoid any tar pits that will occasionally appear. The Trogs are clumsy and dumb and will sometimes fall off the island, sink into the tar pits or blunder into their own traps. However, an island may have holes with warp grids that will advance your Dino two or three islands ahead if your Dino falls into it. These form when you take the shiny egg in the lower-right corner, there will be one egg that will shine last. In addition, all players will recieve a cool 300,000 point bonus. On some islands, there will be doors that will lead from one area to another and some will have springboards that will transport your Dino from one side of the island to another. The springboards will hurl the green Trogs to their doom. On each island, there are all kinds of special items that you can collect to help your Dino including:
Some islands have timed bonus stages that will give you a chance to earn bonus points. These stages include:
When you have made it to the 49th island, The Trog's Cave, you will have to fight off the Trogs until they are all eliminated and then gather up all the gems that appear on that final stage. A special feature follows with fireworks and a multitude of dancing Dinos with a message that says "Congratulations! Your Dino Has Made It Home!" MiscellaneousThe initial prototype of this game did not have you controlling the dinosaurs. Initially, you controlled a hand that placed bones in the playing field to direct the dinos to the eggs. Trogs also were able to break the bones with their clubs in that version. Two bonuses also appeared in the prototype that did not make the final version, a speed bonus and an egg bonus given at the end of the levels.VAPS Arcade/Coin-Op Trog CensusThere are 12,133 members of the Video Arcade Preservation Society / Vintage Arcade Preservation Society, 9,623 whom participate in our arcade census project of games owned, wanted, or for sale.
