Description
An updated re-release of Gauntlet Legends, featuring new worlds, characters and mechanics. The designers have made each of the eight realms extremely deep and complex. Each realm has its unique challenges, from fire-breathing dragons to fang-toothed goblins to maniacal boss monsters.
Originally an Atari Games series, Dark Legacy was the first Gauntlet game to bare the Midway Games logo after Atari Games was renamed Midway Games West.
Gauntlet Dark Legacy was produced by Midway Games in 2000.

Game Introduction
In ancient times, the evil mage-wizard Garm uses the thirteen magical runestones to summon the evil demon, Scorne. Unfortunately, he was betrayed. Scorne imprisoned Garm in the Underworld and scattered the thirteen runestones across the eight realms so they might never be used against him. Now, after being summoned by a man named Summoner, you must regather the runestones as either the Warrior, Wizard, Valkerie, Sorceress, Jester, Dwarf, Knight, or Archer.
Game Play
This game is very similar to the previous game Gauntlet Legends except the players can each choose to be up to eight different characters instead of just four although the game can only have up to four players.
Besides the Warrior, the Valkyrie, the Wizard and the Archer, the four newest player characters include the Knight, the Sorceress, the Dwarf and the Jester.
Each of the new characters have distinct characteristics and fighting styles. The Knight uses a sword like the Valkyrie, the Sorceress uses magic like the Wizard, the Dwarf is a hammer-flinging fiend with awesome strength and the Jester can strategically lob bombs at his enemies. This variety adds new strategic elements to the game, especially when players are working together to play off each other's strengths. There are even special unified attack combo moves that players can activate by working together. The unified attack capabilities, combined with a full arsenal of unique weapons, dozens of secret codes and passwords that access alternate characters and effects, provide for an incredible variety of intense attack options during critical battles.

Trivia
The fourth game in the Gauntlet series carries the Midway "M" logo since the former Atari Games company was renamed by Midway Games as Midway Games West in 1999.
There is a treasure room stage that resembles an office space filled with cubicles, where you can see the original Gauntlet/Gauntlet II cabinet from 1985/1986.
Certain codes could be entered into the game to give the players costume changes.
Cabinet Information
Midway Games West, formally Atari Games, made a dedicated cabinet for the game and later released a JAMMA conversion kit for Gauntlet Legends and other cabinets, featuring a sticker to replace the Atari Games logo on the side are of cabinets converted from Legends to Dark Legacy.
