Game Introduction

There are two characters, each controlled by a different player, who carry different weapons: Labryna, a woman in a pink dress who wields a crossbow; and Condor, an Indiana Jones look-alike who carries a pistol.

Game Play

The object of the game is to travel throughout the many areas of the game in an attempt to escape from the world in which you are trapped by destroying the leader of the Demon empire. The enemies include rats, giant spiders, skeletons and other monsters. Players can pick up special items to help them in their quest including:
  • Magic Power - makes weapons more powerful.
  • Laser Guns - disintegrates enemies.
  • Flamethrowers - burns enemies.
  • Shields - protects from enemy attacks.
  • Dynamite - blows up enemies.
  • Speed-Ups - increases speed.
  • Food - replentishes energy levels.

In each area, the player(s) must find a key that will open the door that will lead to the next area. The Start button will display map which will provide clues to where the keys and the doors are, but it only works in certain areas.

There are 40 different areas in that world that the player(s) must explore before they can find and destroy the Demon leader and then return home.

There is an ending, but finding your way there takes a significant amount of skill or luck, depending on how you look at it. It requires mapping and exploration for the most part. The ending shows the character(s) sitting atop The Statue of Liberty.

VAPS Arcade/Coin-Op Devil World Census

There are 12,097 members of the Video Arcade Preservation Society / Vintage Arcade Preservation Society, 9,507 whom participate in our arcade census project of games owned, wanted, or for sale. Census data currently includes 159,184 machines (6,676 unique titles).

Uncommon - There are approximately 10 known instances of this machine presumably owned by our current and past members. More are likely owned by non-members. 4 of these machines are owned by our active Devil World collectors. And of these, 4 are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.

Wanted - No active members have added this machine to their wish list. There is one active VAPS member looking for a Devil World circuit board set.

At any given time, our active members are listing on VAPS on average of 4,400 games they are looking for, and 3,600 games for sale.

This game ranks a 3 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most often seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on census ownership records.

Rarity and Popularity independently are NOT necessarily indications of value. [More Information]

Technical

The main processors are a pair of 68000 CPUs. The sounds are generated by a Z80, a Yamaha 2151 and 3012, a Konami custom IC and a UPD7759C.

Trivia

Due to the complexity and difficulty of this game, it never faired well in the arcades. The title would have been much better suited for the home game market.
