Peerless Roulette DescriptionAdvertised as a "slot machine par excellence," this Peerless model was introduced by Caille Brothers in 1907. The croupier has been efficiently replaced by a remarkable mechanization. The gambler selects his lucky color or symbol, the odds for which are cast into each coin slot. When the handle is cranked, the roulette wheel revolves, spinning the metal ball around the rim until the ball drops back in a pocket on the wheel. When the movement stops, the Peerless will automatically pay out the designated reward for a winner. By operating the roulette wheel himself, the player feels that he can control his own luck. This handsome and sturdy gambling device stands 47" high and was available in handcrafted mahogany as well as the quartered oak pictured here. Mill Novelty Co. was also manufacturing a similar (although less elaborate) floor model roulette at the same time.Foto-Finder (books)
