PlayChoice 10 Description

A multi-game system that would allow a user to select a game from a list of up to ten titles. The game software used was originally designed for the Nintendo Entertaiment System (a home gaming system)."

Cabinet Information

Generic Nintendo logo stickers appear on both sides of the cabinet. There are three types of cabinets a counter top, a single monitor type and a dual monitor version. The dual monitor cabinet is a dedicated machine and the single monitor style was a kit converting IPopeyeI, IDonkey KongI, IPacManI, et. al. The main PCBs are different between the single and dual versions.

Conversion

A Nintendo IPunchOutI cabinet can be converted to a IPlayChoice 10I dual monitor version but a twoplayer wiring harness must be acquired.

CAPS/VAPS Arcade Census

There are 6,862 members of the Classic Arcade Preservation Society / Video Arcade Preservation Society, 3,937 whom participate in our arcade census project of games owned, wanted, or for sale. Census data currently includes 64,459 machines (3,753 unique titles).

Very Common - There are 144 known instances of this machine owned by PlayChoice 10 collectors. Of these, 114 of them are original dedicated machines, 15 of them are conversions in which game circuit boards (and possibly cabinet graphics) have been placed in (and on) another game cabinet, and 15 of them are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.

This game ranks a 73 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most commonly seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on census ownership records.

Technical

Even though games for the IPlayChoiceI were basicly the same as the home versions for the NES, the hardware is not compatable.

Trivia

A dedicated tabletop version was made late in 1988. ISuper Mario Bros. 3I was previewed in the U.S. market via the PlayChoice machine.
