You start off in 5th place and try to pass as many cars as possible without wrecking. There are two ways to wreck - you can hit the guard rails and you can hit other cars. You have 1 minute to get into the best position and most miles possible. You can earn a time bonus by completing 250 miles within the one minute of allotted time.
