Rampart Description

Build up a castle using Tetris-like pieces to form a wall enclosing your territory. Next, place cannons, and then use them to fire upon enemy boats or opposite player's castle! Then it's back to rebuilding your castle before another round of destruction.

Cheats, Tricks and Bugs

The peons that attack you after unloading from the ships cannot fire diagonally.

CAPS/VAPS Arcade Census

There are 6,862 members of the Classic Arcade Preservation Society / Video Arcade Preservation Society, 3,937 whom participate in our arcade census project of games owned, wanted, or for sale. Census data currently includes 64,459 machines (3,753 unique titles).

Common - There are 47 known instances of this machine owned by Rampart collectors. Of these, 17 of them are original dedicated machines, 5 of them are conversions in which game circuit boards (and possibly cabinet graphics) have been placed in (and on) another game cabinet, and 25 of them are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.

This game ranks a 29 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most commonly seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on census ownership records.

Wanted - Popular - There are 16 VAPS members currently looking for Rampart.

This game ranks a 42 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most commonly seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on census want list records.

For Sale - There are 3 VAPS members with Rampart machines for sale. VAPS members are totally independent of VAPS and the International Arcade Museum, and we are unable to recommend, endorce, or guarantee any person or company selling games or game parts.

Rarity is NOT necessarily an indication of value. [More Information]

Technical

Two versions were made available: a three-player trackball dedicated version (1990) and two-player joystick kit (1991).

The PCBs are identical except for the ROMs, one GAL and some of the inputs have pull-down resistors instead of pull-ups.

The joystick version is straight JAMMA, while the trackball version reuses the joystick axes as the trackball inputs (clock=up/left and direction=down/right) (this is the pseudo-standard way a trackball is used in a JAMMA pinout).
